Focus applies your school's device policy only inside the school's geofence, during the school day. That's the scope of what it enforces.
Restrictions — app blocking and device limits — apply only inside the school’s geofence during school hours. Off campus and after the bell, Focus applies no restrictions.
Out of the box, Focus stores your child’s location only during an emergency lockdown — never in day-to-day use. A school can change this setting if it has a specific need, so ask your district; but the default is no tracking.
Focus does not collect browsing history, messages, photos, or personal content. It enforces policy and records policy events for compliance — that's it.
Most states now require schools to restrict phones and devices during instructional time. Focus is how a school meets that requirement automatically — instead of teachers policing screens, or devices being collected in pouches and bins. It also gives staff a way to lock every device instantly during a lockdown drill or emergency.
The design principle is simple: the school controls the school day. After the bell, Focus stops enforcing restrictions, and by default it records no location at all — the only exception is an active emergency lockdown. A district can change that setting if it has a specific need, so if it matters to you, ask yours.
